When we first mapped out 18 cities across 8 countries on that whiteboard in our rehearsal space, the scale of what we were taking on didn't fully sink in. Six weeks later, stepping off a tour bus in Vienna at 3 AM with aching feet and the kind of exhaustion that feels almost sacred, we finally understood what we'd signed up for.
This tour wasn't just about the shows — it was about rediscovering why we fell in love with music in the first place. Every city brought its own energy, its own crowd, its own moment that we'll carry with us forever.
"There's something about playing live in front of thousands of strangers that strips away everything artificial. You can't fake it when you're under those lights."
— Alex Turner, Lead Vocalist
Berlin was probably the peak — 4,200 people singing our lyrics back at us in a language we barely speak. We stood there in the middle of 'Echoes of Tomorrow' and Jamie just stopped playing for a moment and looked out at the crowd with this expression I'll never forget.
But tours aren't all sold-out shows and perfect nights. Prague hit us hard — equipment failure mid-set, a borrowed amp that kept cutting out, and a crowd that was too polite to show their frustration. We played through it, but backstage afterward was quiet for a long time.
Those hard nights taught us as much as the glorious ones. You learn what you're made of when things fall apart in front of an audience.
We came home with new songs sketched on napkins and voice memos, stories that will take years to process, and a deeper understanding of each other as musicians and as people.
Amsterdam gave us a melody that will probably open the next album. Lisbon gave us a rhythmic idea Marcus had been chasing for two years. And somewhere between Lyon and Geneva, on a cramped bus at midnight, the four of us wrote what might be the most honest song we've ever created.
The European tour is done. But in many ways, it's only just beginning.
"We came back different — not better or worse, just more ourselves."
— Marcus Reed, Guitarist
"Alex is the frontman and primary songwriter for The Sound Waves. When not touring or recording, he writes about the creative process and shares behind-the-scenes insights into the band's work."
